La succession des textes, leur superposition aussi, et l'émergence de projets en parallèle, montrent que les sens des architectures, comme ceux des mots, sont à la fois multiples et contigus. L'architecture semble être toujours à l'intersection entre le spécifique et le générique. Au sein de la société, individus, entreprises, mouvements politiques et religieux, nations et continents s'identifient à l'architecture.
Elle se trouve dans un milieu où les identités se forgent et se confrontent sans cesse. L'identité est donc un lieu commun pour l'architecture, mais sa dimension y est infailliblement problématique. En est-elle seulement un cadre ou, au contraire, participe-t-elle aux processus d'identification ?
Vodou - the storehouse of the slave mind, to this day the vibrant engine of resistance - is much more than a way of looking at the world. It is omnipresent in Haiti, its influence on every aspect of life giving meaning to the mundane. Marianne Lehmann, a Swiss who arrived in Port-au-Prince in 1957, has been collecting vodou objects for over 30 years. The courtyard of her house, its rooms and garden are filled to bursting with more than 3,000 items of a little-known yet surprisingly spirited material culture. Life-size figures from secret societies stand next to representations of spirits, flags of vodou nations, dreamlike figurines, immense mirrors, paquets congo, altars piled high with empty bottles, coffee cups, archaeological stones from the Taino and Arawak cultures. We are brought up short by the vast array of odds and ends used in service to the spirits, rendered speechless by the infinite creativity of Haitian artists. Saved from dispersal by Lehmann's care, the objects await suitable conditions of display to the Haitian public under the auspices of the Fondation pour la préservation, la valorisation et la production d'oeuvres culturelles haïtiennes (FPVPOCH).
The catalogue presents more than 300 pieces from Lehmann's collection on display for the first time ever, anywhere in the world, at the MEG exhibition, "Vodou, a way of life". The pictures are by Johnathan Watts, who kept to the exhibition's narrative thread. They play on variations, details, materials, accessories and group effects, kindling complex and sometimes conflicting feelings. Two interviews, one with Marianne Lehmann herself, the other with the vodou priest, the houngan Max Beauvoir, shed light on the context in which the objects were collected, while an article by Haitian anthropologist Rachel Beauvoir-Dominique (FPVPOCH) explains vodou's underlying significance : the memory of the slave crossing to the Americas and the struggle for freedom and independence - a legitimate source of pride, but also a battle that remains to be won.

The strong and enduring diplomatic links between the two countries since 1814 will be presented through historical documents. A selection of paintings and documents will reflect the importance of immigration and the imprint of the Russian artists in Switzerland and the influence of Switzerland on their work, as it was the case for Leo Tolstoy, Alexey Jawlensky, Ilya Repin, Marianne von Verefkin, Feodor Matveev, Nikolay Dubovskoy, Gerhardt von Reutern .

When Etienne Krähenbühl, went to Lebanon in 2000, he realised what the war could have meant. The country was a field of open wounds and he was fascinated, attracted as much as appaled by it. In the town of Aley, he walked on a ground covered with artillery shells. He exposed a shrapnel fragment to the sunlight piercing through the branches of a lone cedar tree, and decided to capture this moment. He would fix these murderous fragments upon long flexible stems and would turn them into flowers or cobs, erecting them as a field made of a thousand flowers of evil, suspended in the air memory.
The texts offer a poetic, narrative or analytical reflection on the artwork as well as on the history that resonates with it, bringing it back to memory. A land, a memory, countless shattered possibilities : a matter of saying and a way to testify.
This book makes us feel the weight of the lebanon tragedy, not as a documentary but as a lived reality.
